JavaScript has a lot of surface area, but a handful of core concepts unlock most of what you’ll encounter day to day.
- Variables and scope — understanding
let,const, and how scope determines where a variable is accessible. - Functions — including arrow functions and how “this” behaves differently between them.
- Arrays and objects — the two data structures you’ll use constantly, plus common methods like
mapandfilter. - Asynchronous code — promises and
async/awaitfor handling things like network requests. - The DOM — how JavaScript reads and updates the page in the browser.
A Small Example
const numbers = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5];
const doubled = numbers.map((n) => n * 2);
console.log(doubled); // [2, 4, 6, 8, 10]
Once these five ideas feel comfortable, most frameworks stop looking like magic and start looking like JavaScript with extra conventions layered on top.
