Learning to code is as much about managing your own attention as it is about learning syntax. A few habits have made the biggest difference for me.
Time-Boxing Practice Sessions
Open-ended “study for a while” sessions tend to dissolve into distraction. A focused 45-minute block with a specific goal produces far more than a vague afternoon.
Building in Public
Writing about what I’m learning — even in short notes like this blog — forces me to actually understand a concept well enough to explain it, not just recognize it.
- A simple task tracker to avoid re-deciding priorities every day.
- A dedicated notes file for concepts I need to revisit.
- A “done” list, not just a to-do list, to see actual progress.
None of this is glamorous. It’s mostly just protecting a small amount of focused time, consistently, over a long period.
